Support your arts community this summer!

We are seeking volunteers to help support our Summer Fun! art camp. Place des Arts is seeking responsible, caring and committed volunteers interested in working with children ages 5-12 years.

Place des Arts has many volunteer opportunities for youth and adults throughout the year. From providing classroom assistance in our arts education programs to helping out at events, we provide meaningful ways to get involved in the arts and contribute to the community.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Applicants must be over the age of 13;
  • All applicants must attend an interview. Place des Arts will contact applicants to arrange interviews as applications are received;
  • Complete reference and criminal record checks. Volunteers over the age of 18 are required to complete a criminal record check.

Volunteer Opportunities

Ongoing Volunteer Program

A flexible ongoing volunteer program for volunteers interested in helping with events, concerts, exhibitions and programs year-round. Choose the shifts and programs that fit best with your schedule and interests.

  • Events: Place des Arts participates in a variety of events out in the community, as well as at our centre. You can act as:
    • a Floater (assisting with children’s art activities, setting up, cleaning up and helping as needed),
    • an Usher (guiding guests at concerts and recitals),
    • a Bar Host (which requires a Serving it Right certificate) or as
    • a Front-of-House volunteer (welcoming guests and overseeing check-in)
    • Art Activity Help (teaching attendees the activity and helping them create their work)
    • External Events Help (help with set-up, clean up, spreading the word about Place des Arts and supervising whatever activity is occurring)

  • Art Camps for Children: Camp volunteers gain exposure to a variety of classes in the arts. Duties include supervising children and assisting teachers in classes. Camps are offered during select Pro-D Days, Spring Break and summer.
  • Classroom & Workshop Assistants: Volunteers assist teachers with distributing supplies, helping students as needed and cleaning up.
  • Fundraising: Place des Arts is a not-for-profit registered charity and fundraising is pivotal in helping us achieve our mission to inspire the artist in everyone. Every year we hold an Online Auction and the money raised goes towards providing free spots in our programs for children, youth and adults. We need volunteers to help:
    • Liaise with local organizations
    • Collect and organize items for donation
    • Distribute promotional materials
    • Implement peer to peer fundraising

Summer Fun! Camp Volunteers

From July-August, Place des Arts needs camp volunteers for our Summer Fun! program. This is a great opportunity to gain valuable experience working with children in a fun, art-camp setting. The deadline to apply is June 16, 2023.

Board Directors

Are you looking for an opportunity to make an impact in your community? We are seeking committed volunteers to join our Board of Directors with expertise in the following fields:

  • Information Technology (IT)
  • Legal
  • Human Resources
  • Financial Management/Accounting
  • Fundraising

To engage as a Director requires:

  • attending at least 10 meetings per year, each sometimes three (3) hours long, monthly and otherwise as required,
  • attending Place des Arts special events,
  • leading or being active on at least one board committee, and
  • building relationships and/or using your professional network to support fundraising efforts.

Applications are encouraged from qualified candidates who meet the criteria and live anywhere in the Lower Mainland. Interested individuals are invited to complete the application form at Director Application Form by Sunday, October 15, 2023, 11:59 PM. This volunteer position requires an interview, only shortlisted applicants will be contacted. Successful candidates are required to obtain and provide a Police Information Check with a vulnerable sector check and provide references prior to joining the board.
