Summer Dance classes will be taught exclusively online. 

Many of you are eagerly awaiting our 2020/21 season registration announcement. We are diligently working on a plan for our new season that ensures the health and safety of our students, teachers and staff.

Place des Arts offers classes in a wide variety of dance styles for all ages, including ballet, hip hop, jazz, lyrical, tap, yoga and more, from recreational to competition levels.

Overview

Private lessons and group classes, master classes, a year-end dance recital and, for competition classes, dance festivals provide our dancers with exceptional training and performance opportunities.

Place des Arts’ caring and highly skilled teachers make dance fun and challenging and take pride in making sure all students receive personalized attention.

Classes take place at Place des Arts and off site in satellite studios at the Evergreen Cultural Centre, 1205 Pinetree Way, Coquitlam.

Registration for all dance classes, including those held at the Evergreen Cultural Centre, must be done through Place des Arts.

September – June dance classes

These dance classes begin in September and run until June. Late registration is accepted at the discretion of the teacher and where space is available. As there are many technical elements to learn, a student will usually spend more than one year in each level. Placement is based on teacher recommendation.

Fall, winter, spring session dance classes

Dance classes that run during the fall, winter and spring sessions introduce beginners to dance while preparing them for entry into the September – June program.

Summer dance classes

Place des Arts hosts exciting summer dance programs for youth and adults. Summer dance is a great way to spend some time in the summer dancing, learning, making new friends and having a great time!

Program Overview

Keep fit during the summer! You’ll work on the fundamentals of ballet. Develop confidence, mental concentration, coordination and grace while having fun and toning your body. Students should have at least 1 year of recent ballet experience.

A professional and certified Russian Ballet teacher, Lucienne began her studies as a resident of a Polish State Ballet School, later working toward her professional teaching credentials at the University of Music in Warsaw. Her performing career was with the Maurice Bejart Theatre de XX Siècle in Belgium. Lucienne continues to learn by attending extensive teacher ongoing training through the National Ballet School of Canada.

Program Overview

Learn the fundamentals of hip hop dance from the comfort of your own home! Develop your coordination and musicality and discover the many ways you can move your body to music. No experience necessary.

Ashley found her love for dance and performing at a very young age. With over 15 years in the performing arts industry, she has earned titles such as National Gold Champion for two consecutive years in dance competitions in Las Vegas and Orlando, as well as National Silver Champion in a dance competition in Portland, Oregon.

Ashley is trained in tap, hip hop, jazz, musical theatre and ballet and has trained with many masters, including Jeni Le Gon, Jason Samuels Smith and Napoleon and Tabitha D’umo (NappyTabs).

She was a backup dancer for Tazneem Tarmohamed, has been featured in television commercials such as Alley Cats, and performed in local productions, including For The Luv Of It, West Side Story and the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Games Ceremony. Ashley is always eager to share her knowledge and continue to learn in every aspect in the performing arts industry.

Program Overview

Gain knowledge and confidence in jazz, lyrical and contemporary dance styles this summer! Each class begins with a full-body cardio warm-up focusing on building strength, flexibility, coordination and musicality. The second portion of each class will consist of learning a short choreography to exercise both mind and body. No experience necessary.

In this fun ballet class, you’ll work on the fundamentals of ballet, including proper technique and vocabulary. Learn and dance to classical music from well-known ballets like Swan Lake, The Nutcracker and Giselle. This class is suitable for those with 0-2 years of dance experience.

The focus will be on improving and maintaining ballet technique and performance quality. Classes will include a stretch and strengthen component to combine muscular toning with endurance training. Students should have completed at least one year of ballet.

Program Overview

Stay moving this summer with this jazz and lyrical dance technique and conditioning class. This includes stretching and strengthening exercises, and combines muscular tone and endurance training with musicality, rhythm and coordination. Practice kicks, jump, turns and more. All levels welcome; students will be challenged appropriately at the level of their ability.
