With over 20 years in the performing arts industry, she has earned titles such as National Gold Champion for two consecutive years in dance competitions in Las Vegas and Orlando, as well as National Silver Champion in a dance competition in Portland, Oregon.
Ashley is trained in tap, hip hop, jazz, musical theatre and ballet and has trained with many masters, including Jeni Le Gon, Jason Samuels Smith and Napoleon and Tabitha D’umo (NappyTabs).
She was a backup dancer for Tazneem Tarmohamed, has been featured in television commercials such as Alley Cats, and performed in local productions, including For The Luv Of It, West Side Story and the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Games Ceremony. Ashley is always eager to share her knowledge and continue to learn in every aspect in the performing arts industry.

Hatha Yoga is an ancient practice that integrates physical postures, breathing techniques and meditation to promote health and inner peace. In an environment of self-respect and non-competition, you will improve your concentration, relaxation, flexibility, energy and vitality while aligning with each pose’s true purpose.

Bernadette Rollin was born and raised in Switzerland where from early childhood she loved to draw, paint and do crafts. In 1977, she moved and immigrated to Vancouver.
In 1982 Bernadette began exploring decorative painting which she had fully enjoyed for ten years and by 1992 Bernadette then moved on to discover the beauty of watercolour painting.
Since 1999 the technique and mediums of her art have evolved to include pastels, oils, acrylics, ink stamping and layering of porous material, all of which have challenged her to further explore the inner-depths of her art and creativity. Through the inspiration of Bernadette’s love of gardening, outdoor activities and nature these themes are now being incorporated throughout her art work.
Over the years, Bernadette has continued to develop artistically exploring a variety of techniques, perfecting her skills through studies in drawing and painting courses. Bernadette’s current works incorporate painting larger, semi-abstract mixed media on canvas with varied surfaces complete with bolder and brighter colours.
Bernadette was a Founding Member of the Art Focus Art Group as well as being an Active Member of the Federation of Canadian Artists. Over the years, Bernadette has participated in many selected solo and group exhibitions with Bernadette’s art work being purchased by a number of Government agencies as well as by collectors around the world.
Currently Bernadette also teaches painting to children and adults, in conjunction with being a yoga instructor.

A Musical Theatre performer for over 25 years, singing, dancing, and acting have been Joanna’s life passions. She started dancing at a very young age, completing all the examinations in Ballet, Tap and Modern dance with the British Association of Teachers of Dance in the UK. Joanna successfully completed a teaching diploma in Ballet, Tap and Modern dance before setting off on a professional career on the stage that enabled her to travel the world.
Performing in dance reviews and musicals in England, Germany, Spain, Japan and Canada, Joanna’s knowledge of the performing arts is extensive. Now a proud member of the Canadian Dance Teachers Association in the Classical Ballet, Tap and Jazz divisions, Joanna is thrilled to become a part of the Place des Arts community, sharing her passion for dance and theatre with her students!

Shelby was born with toes tapping! She started dance classes at the age of three and has since had the opportunity to compete and perform with a range of groups over the years. Specializing in tap and musical theatre, Shelby is also trained in jazz, contemporary, street jazz and hip hop.
Shelby has taught recreational to competitive classes in various settings including at the Vancouver Tap Dance Society and numerous public schools. Her training is continuous, and she emphasizes emoting through the dance form in her classes. She is a performer with the non-profit organization Groove Force Productions and will be performing in their upcoming performance Coming Home in December 2018.

Shelby has been a passionate and active participant in theatre since she can remember. Starting classes at the age of six, she has been a part of many projects including acting in musicals, one act plays and spoken word performances.
Shelby has experience teaching in multiple settings from competitive to recreational environments including in public schools and for community theatre. Her most recent project involved helping write and direct an original piece of theatre titled Little Black Box that Port Moody Secondary School students performed at MetFest, a district wide theatre festival. She is currently excited to be working on The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee at Port Moody Secondary as the choreographer and director.
Shelby’s training is continuous through workshops involving improvisation, clowning, flocking, puppetry, musical theatre, tap, hip hop and jazz. She also has Viewpoints Training.
Shelby has her Special Education Assistant Certificate and is qualified to teach students with a wide range of ability and needs. She is excited to merge her passions for education, theatre and dance at Place des Arts and is determined to help students feel accomplished in their classes through a fun approach with constructive guidance.

Emily started her dance career at the age of 6 at Place des Arts. Growing up taking ballet classes with Lucienne Ancyzkowski as well as jazz and technique classes, she received several awards and scholarships. She then branched out into hip hop and street jazz, which is where she ultimately found her passion.
In her last year of high school, Emily joined hip-hop training company “Kill the Lights” (KTL) run by industry professionals Ken Yung and Shauna Smith through Harbour Dance Centre in Vancouver.
After booking work in the Vancouver dance scene, including multiple music videos, movies, live performances and commercial work, Emily decided to return to team dancing and training.
Her biggest accomplishment to date was being invited to dance with an internationally renowned, all-female competitive hip-hop team called Style and Grace. Run by Carmen Forsyth and Ravienal Lescano, Style and Grace competes locally and internationally and was featured on Season 3 of NBC’s World of Dance.
Emily continues to travel and teach locally and in other Canadian cities in the hopes of spreading her love of dance to others.

In 2015, Michaela received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Ryerson University Performance Dance program, and since has been performing and teaching. She also in 2020 received her 200 hour Yoga Teaching Certificate.
Michaela’s love for dance and continued training has gifted her the opportunity to train under mentors from companies including The National Ballet of Canada, Toronto Dance Theatre, Cirque du Soleil and more. She has also had the privilege of working with multiple Toronto based choreographers/artists such as Alysa Pires (Toronto Fringe Festival), who inspired her to follow her goal of becoming a dance instructor.
Michaela’s love for dance has given her the opportunity to dance all over the world. Michaela was invited to train and perform at Springboard Danse Montreal where she was fortunate enough to perform works by Alexander Ekman (Sweden) and LoudHoundMovement (New York City). Michaela also travelled to Greece to perform as a dancer and actor and most recently in 2017 travelled to Dubai to perform Aladdin with Creativiva Company.
Michaela has always had a passion to teach dance since the age of 6. She started to instruct at the age of 15 and instantly fell in love with sharing her passion for dance with her students. She is excited to meet, have fun and dance with her students this fall 2020 at Place des Arts.

Program Overview
Recommended for dancers and other athletes alike as a tool for enhancing physical performance and avoiding injury caused by poor technique or overuse of the body. This class includes stretching and strengthening exercises and combines muscular tone and endurance training, cardiovascular exercises and body alignment.
Only those already registered in Monday 7:15-8:30pm Ballet IV class can register. NO EXCEPTIONS. This is a back-to-back class that doesn’t allow for cleaning and sanitizing to occur in between. It is meant to be for the same students to continue to stay in the room for another class.
