We are offering live, 4- and 5-day music workshops in a variety of styles for a variety of age groups with teachers Ryan Siverns and Jimmy Baldwin. Classes will be held through Zoom. Find out more and register below!

Guitar 101 for 9-12 years

Monday-Friday, May 25-29 from 10:30-11:15am

Discover the enjoyment of music and the guitar in this fun virtual ensemble setting. Learn basic chord shapes, rhythms and techniques for playing simple arrangements of songs. Cover basic theory and learn about musical genres by listening to and playing blues, jazz, rock, country, pop, hip-hop, classical, World and more! Students will need their own guitar (acoustic, nylon string, or electric).

Technical requirements: Beginners welcome but some experience would be helpful.

Guitar for Adults, 18+ years

Monday-Friday, May 25-29 from 9:30-10:15am

Musical Rainbow Sparkles for 1.5 – 3 years

Tuesday-Friday, June 2-5 from 9:30-10:15am

Young Children will enjoy learning songs and rhymes building the fundamentals for music-making literacy! Social skills, language development, self-confidence and creativity will be strengthened through play, movement, improvisation, and other fun and interactive ways!

Suitable for children and their caretakers with or without prior music experience.

Music Fun! for 3-5 years

Tuesday-Friday, June 2-5 from 10:30-11:15am

Learn the fundamentals of music through singing songs, chanting rhymes, playing music games, and more! Musical concepts including pitch, rhythm, pulse, dynamics and musical form will be covered in these fun, interactive classes.

Suitable for children and their caretakers with or without prior music experience.

The Musical Rainbow: Sparkles

A graduate of Capilano University’s Bachelor of Music Therapy Program, Ryan Siverns has been a music teacher in the Tri-Cities for the last 5 years.  He has been trained and influenced by Place des Arts’s own Mr. I in teaching young children and incorporates a developmental and interpersonal perspective into his teaching.

Ryan is honoured to help develop a love of music in children (and adults) in the community and does so through leadership in church ministry, community events and family music education.

Jimmy is an accomplished and versatile musician who holds a Bachelor of Applied Music Degree in Contemporary Jazz Guitar Performance from VCC School of Music and has been performing and teaching for two decades. As well as skill and experience, he brings great enthusiasm and a deep love of music-making to his teaching. Students will learn and develop basic musicianship skills and guitar techniques while exploring music from various genres and cultures. Students are also encouraged to bring their personal musical tastes and interests to lessons.

Whether solo or as leader of his own Jimmy Baldwin Band; as the co-founding member of 10-piece Afro-beat funk juggernaut Camaro 67; as a member of the electric bebop group the Underdogs; as a performer with top-tier event bands like Five Alarm Funk, Ten Souljers and Supersonic Hearts; or as a gun for various solo artists and one-off appearances, Jimmy is always playing. Since the release of his debut album “Changing Time” in 2013, he has focused on the above-mentioned projects until recently releasing his sophomore album “Lighthouse” in December 2020.
