With Giving Tuesday just around the corner, you are probably considering how your donations might create meaningful impact within your community. At Place des Arts, we believe that the arts are important to everyone. No matter your age, ability, background or economic status. Your donations mean a great deal to in-need families and vulnerable members of the community who struggle to access the fundamental benefits provided by arts education.

Your contributions from Giving Tuesday and all following monthly donations provide program subsidies and community outreach initiatives that directly support quality, inspiring opportunities for local school children to participate in the arts. Through our Artist in Residence program, local school children can participate in a variety of multi-disciplinary art classes through field trips to our centre, learning from professional artists. These educational experiences enable students to learn creative skills and competencies that will ultimately help them to thrive and meet their full potential.

Lauren Rotziens class during an AiR workshop

So far this year, the first session of our Artist in Residence program featured workshops with award-winning actor, playwright, director and teacher, Kymme Patrick. The class was illuminating, helping young children and pre-teens come out of their shells using team games and activities that focus on voice, body and emotions. Created for both bold and shy students, this helped them develop communication skills and build self-confidence.

For the rest of our 2019/2020 year, we have five more teachers offering experiences in guitar for beginners, lantern making, traditional Indigenous drum design and painting.

We need your help to ensure local elementary and middle school students continue to benefit from this one-of-a-kind opportunity to learn from and interact with inspiring professional artists. Your donation helps meet the increasing demand for more classes in the Artist in Residence program, allowing more children to engage with the arts at no cost to their school or their family.

At this link, you can make a one-time donation or sign-up for monthly donations. For as little as $5 a month, you can make a difference in someone’s life.
