Artist Statement
Modern Colour Series – “Mini Splats”
I love the organic “splat” shape and wanted to create art pieces that were playful; incorporating simple shapes and vibrant colours, inspired by the pop art aesthetic.
I sewed a selection of brightly coloured fabrics onto felt to form the background and then stitched unique felt “splats” to each piece.
Mounted on painted wood blocks, they are ready to sit on a table or hang on a wall.
Biography
I am a mixed media artist. With an extensive background in quilt making, I have repurposed this design and construction knowledge as the foundation for my art. Textiles are my preferred medium. Utilizing techniques such as painting, block printing, collage, machine and hand stitching and applique to enhance my work provides me with endless possibilities when creating my art.
Currently, my work is inspired by the pop art of the 1970s, incorporating the bold, colourful, and graphic style of that art movement. My studio is located in Langley, British Columbia.
