The 2026/2027 season runs from September 8, 2026, to June 26, 2027. The summer season runs from July 5, 2027, to August 13, 2027.

Start Date Reminders

We do not send email or text reminders about start dates and times. Please check your registration receipts or your online client account to view your schedule.

Age Policy

Classes are organized to match the developmental abilities of each age group, ensuring all students have an engaging and age-appropriate learning experience. Students must meet the minimum and maximum age requirements specified for each class.

PROGRAM TYPES, FEES AND REGISTRATION INFORMATION

Private lessons remain open for registration throughout the season.

Offered in music and dance, and upon request, visual arts and theatre, private lessons provide personalized, one-on-one instruction tailored to each student’s needs and schedule. Visit placedesarts.ca/music/registration-info-private lessons for teacher biographies and available teaching days.

Trial Lessons

All music teachers offer paid trial lessons, giving students the chance to meet the teacher and ensure a good fit. Payment secures the selected trial lesson date and time only and does not reserve that time for ongoing lessons. Trial private lessons may be rescheduled without losing payment provided 48 hours’ notice is given and the lesson stays with the same teacher. More than one reschedule will incur a $15 fee.

Private Lesson Fees:

  • Lesson Fees for Music: Fee levels vary by teacher and start at $31 per 30-minute lesson.
  • Registration Fee:
    • During the season: $45 per enrolment
    • During summer months: $8: 1-3 lessons, $15: 4-12 lessons
  • Trial lessons: registration fee not charged

Piano Teacher-in-Training Program

This program offers children ages 5-10, the opportunity to learn piano at a reduced rate with either a junior or mentored teacher. These teachers instruct under the guidance of a seasoned instructor. Lessons are offered throughout the week and on weekends. Students studying with junior teachers (pre-grade 1 level and up), are required to register for mandatory master classes.

Fees:

  • Junior Teachers: $23-$27 per 30-minute lesson
  • Teacher-in-Training Master Classes:
  • Junior: 3, 30-minute classes, cost is determined at the time of registration

Registration Fee: $45 per enrolment; no registration fee for master classes

Private Lessons in Dance

How to Register: In person or by phone (no online registration).
Lesson Fees: Fee levels vary by teacher from $29-$35 per 30-minute lesson.
Registration Fee:

  • During the season: $45 per enrolment
  • During summer months: $8: 1-3 lessons, $15: 4-12 lessons

Private Lessons in Acting and Musical Theatre

Private Lessons in Visual Arts

How to Register: In person or by phone (no online registration).
Private lessons are scheduled are based on teacher and student availability and are open for registration throughout the season. We require a minimum booking of one hour for visual arts and two hours for ceramics. Lessons can be scheduled individually or weekly for the September to June or Summer (July to mid-August) terms. We offer lessons for one, two or three students in the following disciplines:

  • Cartooning & Comic Drawing, Ceramics – Handbuilding and/or Wheel Throwing, Drawing, Painting, Loom Weaving, Yarn Spinning

Lesson Fees:

  • One student: starts at $60.00 per one hour of instruction.
  • Two students: starts at $30.00 per one hour of instruction.

Registration Fee: Charged per enrolment. Amount varies depending on the number of lessons booked.

September-June and January-June Classes

These continuous programs, offered in music, dance, and through our Youth Theatre Ensembles, run from September to June and promote steady progress. Students remain with the same class throughout the season.

Late enrolments (after the September start date) may be accepted at the discretion of Place des Arts and where space is available.

How to Register: Online, by phone, or in person

Fees/Deposits:

  • Class Fees: Fees vary by program type and discipline and are based on a per-class fee structure.
  • Registration Fee: $45 per enrolment
  • Supply Fees: If applicable, they are charged to cover the cost of materials and/or equipment used in the class. They are charged in addition to class fees.
  • Dance Recital Production Fee: A $25 production fee is charged for each class a student is enrolled in that participates in the year-end dance recital. This fee is used to help cover production costs including props, supplies and venue rental.
  • Dance Recital Video Fee: Students performing in our annual year-end recital will be charged $26.25 for a video of the year-end recital. This fee is applied once per student regardless of the number of September-June and January-June dance class enrolments. Each student will receive a password-protected link to view the recital.
  • Costume Deposit*: A $100 costume deposit is applied for each class that participates in dance in the year-end dance recital or competitions. All students performing in the recital or competitions will need a costume for every dance they perform in.
  • Competition Entry Fee Deposit*: A $150 competition entry fee deposit will be applied to each class participating in dance competitions and is payable at the time of registration.

*This is the estimated cost for the deposit(s). Depending on the final cost, you may be required to pay more, or a portion of the deposit(s) may be returned.

Youth Theatre Ensemble Production Fees: The production fee is charged per student and is used to cover the costs of the production designer, costumes, sets, props, venue rental, royalties and scripts, and transportation of sets and props, and theatre technician fees.

  • Youth Theatre Ensemble (13-17): $475
  • Junior Theatre Ensemble (9-12): $300
  • Youth Musical Theatre Ensemble (8-12): $300

Fall/Winter/Spring Session Classes and Workshops:

Session classes run anywhere from 4-12 weeks; workshops typically run for 1-3 days:

  • Fall Session: Sep 20-Dec 12 (up to 12 classes)
  • Winter Session: Jan 10-Mar 6 (up to 8 classes)
  • Spring Session: Apr 4-Jun 13 (up to 10 classes)
  • Summer Session: July 5-Aug 13 (up to 6 classes)

Session classes offered in all disciplines, are shorter term and build skills week to week.
Workshops are offered to focus on developing specific skills or are project-based in nature.

Fees:

  • Class/Workshop fees: Fees vary by program type and discipline and are based on a per-class fee structure.
  • Registration Fee: included in the total cost of the class.
  • $15 per session class enrolment
  • $5 per workshop enrolment
  • Supply Fees: May be included in the total cost. If not, a supply list will be provided, and students must purchase supplies before the class starts.

Helpful hint: We recommend waiting to purchase supplies until a few days before the class start date to avoid unnecessary expenditures if the class is cancelled.

  • Ceramic Arts Open Studio and Supplies

Registered adult students have access to open studio time, which is included in the total class fee. Clay must be purchased on-site, and supply lists are available at the registration desk.

  • Fibre Arts Open Studio and Equipment Loan Policy

Registered adult students may borrow equipment by signing a contract and paying a refundable deposit:

  • $50 for small equipment
  • $100 for large equipment
  • A reimbursement of the deposit, less any repairs, will be issued after the equipment has been checked and viewed to be in satisfactory condition by the fibre arts teacher or technician.

In addition, a non-refundable fee of $5 per session is included in the total cost of the class to help cover the repair and maintenance costs for loaned equipment.

Art Camps (Pro-D Day, Spring Break and Summer Fun!):

Arts camps offer a variety of engaging visual and performing arts classes for children and teens:

  • Pro-D Day camps: A full day camp is offered on Provincial Pro-D Fridays in October and February
  • Spring Break camps: Week one offers full day camps for Gr. K to 9, week 2 offers half-day camps for Gr. K-2.
  • Summer Fun!: These camps run for six weeks over the summer for ages 5-14. Full day and half day camps are available.

  • $5 Pro-D Day Art Camp
  • $10-15: Spring Break and Summer Fun! Art Camps

Supply Fees: Fees are included in the total cost and vary based on the needs of each camp class.
Summer Fun Lunchtime supervision fee:

  • $35 per 5-day week
  • $28 per 4-day week

PAYMENT POLICIES

Fees Policy

  • Payment of all class and lesson fees, registration fees, supply fees, production fees and deposits is due at the time of enrolment.
  • A pre-authorized payment plan option is available with a valid credit card for September-June and January-June class fees and Private Lesson fees (charged on the first of each month). For our Youth Theatre Ensembles, the pre-authorized payment plan is charged on Sep 1 and Oct 1.
  • All registration fees are non-refundable. Registration fees are applied to all enrolment transactions and cover costs relating to administering client accounts, registration software fees and studio and equipment maintenance (e.g. sound systems, pianos, kilns, studio tables and chairs).
  • Students are not considered enrolled until payment has been received. A verbal agreement with a teacher does not constitute registration.
  • Enrolments are non-transferable. A student’s place in a class or lesson cannot be transferred to another individual.

GST

Applicable GST will be charged in accordance with Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) guidelines.

Failed Payments

A $15 service fee will be charged for failed pre-authorized monthly payments.

Schedule/Enrolment Changes for September-June Classes or Private Lessons

Each student is allowed on schedule or class change per season with the same teacher. (e.g., changing the day, time, or class).

For example:

• Moving from a Wednesday class to a Friday class taught by the same teacher.

A $15 service fee will be charged for each additional change initiated by the student.

Refunds

Refunds are available only if a student withdraws by the program deadline or if Place des Arts cancels the program. For full policy details, please see the Withdrawals/Cancellations Policy

Note: to ensure appropriate support during programs, individuals who require ongoing one-on-one support at school or at home are required to attend programs with a support person arranged by their parent/caregiver.

ILLNESS AND ABSENCES

Absences – Classes/Workshops

Reporting absences is optional; however, we cannot follow up on prolonged or unreported student absences.

Absences – Private Lessons

Please notify the registration desk or your teacher as early as possible, if you will be absent.

Illness

Students who are unwell or experiencing cold or flu symptoms should not attend. Refunds or make-ups are not offered for missed classes or lessons.
