Alumni visual arts student

Biography

I grew up in Port Coquitlam and went to college in Ontario. I got married in 2017. Now, I am an apprentice to my dad, who is an iconographer. With his instruction and assistance, I have completed two icons. I have taken three art classes at Place des Arts in watercolour, acrylic and drawing.

Artist Statement

My first artistic attempts were drawings, and the first art class I took at Place des Arts was a drawing class. Even though I have since taken painting classes and have begun to learn iconography, drawing remains particularly satisfying to me. This drawing is especially representative for me because it used skills that I learned in two Place des Arts classes and because I drew it for my dad, who is, of course, one of my great inspirations and supporters artistically. This piece is of the old grain elevator in Big Valley, Alberta, where my paternal grandmother was born. The small figures in front of the grain elevator are my mum, my sister, one of my brothers and myself.
