Biography
Lakshmi Gosyne (Luck-shmee Go-sign) is a Canadian oil painter based in Vancouver, known for her luminous West Coast landscapes and evocative skies. Drawing inspiration from everyday walks and getaways, Gosyne translates the shifting light, distance, and quiet drama of British Columbia into atmospheric scenes that invite reflection and nostalgia. Her paintings often reference beloved BC locales—Osoyoos Lake, Port Moody, Lynn Valley, Simon Fraser University, and the Vancouver seawall—balancing recognizability with a strong sense of place and emotional resonance.
Originally from Trinidad and Tobago and raised in Toronto, Gosyne’s layered approach to light and colour echoes her journey across cultures and coastlines, infusing her work with warmth and contrast. Working primarily on canvas and wood panel, she creates both intimate and statement pieces designed for collectors seeking calm, clarity, and possibility. Gosyne’s practice offers a refined sensitivity to place and a contemporary visual language that feels both collectible and personally meaningful.
Artist Statement
As an artist immersed in the beauty of Vancouver’s natural landscapes, my passion lies in capturing the serene moments of lakes and the ocean during golden hour. Each oil painting I create reflects not just the visual splendour of these locales but also the emotional resonance they evoke within me. Living in this vibrant city, I find inspiration everywhere—from the tranquil surface of a lake mirroring fiery sunsets to the rhythmic dance of ocean waves kissed by the evening light. Golden hour transforms these scenes, imbuing them with a magical glow that breathes life into my canvases. It is a time when colours shift and blend, creating a symphony of warm hues that invite viewers to pause and reflect. Using oil paints, I embrace the medium’s unique ability to capture the soft, diffused light of twilight. The rich texture and depth oils offer allow me to replicate the delicate interplay of light and shadow that defines this fleeting hour. With each brushstroke, I strive to convey not just what I see but also what I feel—an intimate experience of connection with nature.
