Digital Photography in the Mezzanine

“Nature Needs Half” refers to a mantra frequently used by habitat conservation advocates. According to scientists who study ecosystem viability: to have a planet that sustains life as we know it, we need to save approximately 50% of Earth’s land and water resources from development or other modification. Human life is dependent upon sustained ecosystems for survival, and they function best when all elements are present. The food web, carbon cycle, hydrologic cycle, and countless other systems are essential to maintain life and support human survival.

My photography is a love letter to those systems, and the elements within them that people connect with. I also understand that nature is not sentimental and romanticism is something that humans project onto the natural world. No matter the image, my message is the same: these natural processes are a requirement of a fully functioning ecosystem and keep everything in it alive.

We live on a planet with a mind-boggling diversity of life. Life on Earth is a gift we cannot squander.
