Conté and Ink on Paper in the Leonore Peyton Salon
Please note: the Leonore Peyton Salon is a multi-purpose space; therefore, viewing times are limited. Please call 604.664.1636 for viewing availability prior to your visit.
Drawing Without an Eraser takes its title from both the materials and the way the drawings are made. Working primarily with ink and Conté leaves little opportunity for correction. Each mark is deliberate, requiring patience, attention to detail, and trust in the process—from the first line to the last.
The exhibition centers on animals whose forms, textures and expressions invite us to look beyond conventional ideas of beauty. Rather than idealizing the subjects, the drawings seek to capture each animal’s individuality, character and quiet dignity. Even creatures we might initially dismiss as awkward or unattractive reveal their unique beauty when observed closely.
The work also reflects a growing concern for the natural world. As human development continues to reshape and diminish wildlife habitats, many species face an uncertain future. These drawings are intended as both a celebration of the richness of the animal kingdom and a quiet reminder of what may be lost through neglect.
Using simple materials allows the drawings to remain direct and uncluttered. Their graphic clarity makes them immediately accessible, while rewarding viewers who take the time to look more closely at both the subjects themselves and the ideas they suggest.
