Artist Statement
The process for these images began by creating abstract impressionistic backgrounds. Acrylic paint is applied in additive and subtractive methods to build texture. Then, illustrations of birds and botanicals are collaged or sketched with a pen. The works employ vibrant colours and expressive brushstrokes. Deep blues and black evoke an evening forest; white and pale blues evoke seafoam on a long stretch of beach. The images set a mood for viewers and encourage them to use their imagination and connect with the scene.
