I studied Art and Education at York University and the Ontario College of Art and Design, and I have enjoyed teaching, learning and creating with my students for over 20+ years.
I often find unique and interesting elements pop up in my students’ work. What they see as imperfections are often the interesting things that make their work shine. I try to embrace this in my paintings as well and find myself experimenting and playing with the odd lines, shapes and textures that appeared unexpectedly. In I bruise easily, I found myself playing with balancing smooth blending of lines and colours with sharp mark making, texture and empty space. The process became an experience or taking care of the surface with soft brush strokes while allowing some spontaneous harsher marks to remain. I hope others feel some connection; whether it’s a memory of a tactile experience, a hint of an image they recognize or the impulse to touch the canvas itself.
