Artist Statement
Encounters with wildlife and nature are a magical experience, and I try to bring that magic into my art. My work focuses on the wildflowers and animals in our own backyards and local parks. By encouraging people to connect with nature, I hope they will also work to conserve it. This series of butterfly paintings focuses on the most common butterflies in British Columbia. To make it appear as though these butterflies have just landed on the paper, they are painted in watercolour with realistic details and a hint of iridescence. Most of the butterflies are painted at life size, with only the smallest species painted larger.
