Current student at Place des Arts (2025/2026 season)
Biography
I am a ceramic artist based in Coquitlam, BC, and most of my creative life happens on the pottery wheel. I started pottery about four years ago at Place des Arts, thinking it would be a casual hobby… and then it completely took over. The rhythm of wheel throwing hooked me fast, there’s something addictive about watching a lump of clay suddenly decide to behave (or NOT).
Although I occasionally hand build, the wheel is where I feel most at home, exploring curves, balance, and clean, functional forms. My background as a mechanical engineer definitely sneaks into my work. I think in structure, flow, and material behaviour. But clay has taught me to loosen up a little, it has its own opinions, and it’s not shy about expressing them.
Glazing and I are still negotiating our relationship. It’s the part of the process I struggle with most, but it keeps me experimenting, laughing at my own mistakes, and learning to embrace the unexpected.
I work mainly at Place des Arts and in my small home studio. My pieces are inspired by everyday use, quiet design, and the simple pleasure of holding something handmade.
Artist Statement
Most of my pottery ideas start the same way. I’m scrolling Instagram, see a beautiful bowl or cup, and think, “I can totally make that.” Then I go to the studio and discover… maybe I can, maybe I absolutely cannot. But trying to mimic work I admire has become a big part of how I learn, experiment, and slowly shape my own style.
My work is inspired by simple shapes, everyday use, and the pleasure of holding something handmade. Pottery has become a mix of curiosity, practice, and happy accidents; one Instagram-inspired attempt at a time.
