Artist Statement
For a few years, I have been exploring expressive and realistic drawings of trees based on local examples, both live and affected by fire devastation. I began working with charcoal collected from the forest, which I have used to make liquid charcoal and diluted to form various greys. These small drawings on canvas are a precursor to a much larger show where the works continue the theme on a much larger scale. Working small has allowed me to experiment with ways to enhance the finished works with drawn detail and ways to fix or protect the results.
