Applications without a teacher recommendation letter will not be considered. It is the student’s responsibility to request a recommendation letter from the selected teacher. The recommendation letters must be emailed to scholarships@placedesarts.ca by the application deadline.
Please provide a brief statement (maximum 300 words) describing why you feel you are a good candidate for a scholarship from Place des Arts. This statement should be written by the applying student.

Awards / Recognition

Recent Exams / Class Marks / School Clubs

Please provide any recent exam marks, including music exams and/or school grades, honour roll status or school clubs. The provided grades/clubs do not have to be related to your artistic discipline.

Students are required to provide accompanying examples of their work as part of their Scholarship application.

 
  • For Performing Arts Students (Dance, Music and Theatre): Please provide a video maximum seven (7) minutes of you performing a piece that best represents your current ability relating to the class(es)/lesson(s) you are taking at Place des Arts. The recording must be done in a single take with no cuts or edits and can either be a new recording for this application or an existing recording of one of your performances. If you are unsure of what to perform or submit, please speak to your teacher(s) for advice.
    • To Submit: Please upload your video to YouTube, Dropbox, Vimeo, or Google Drive. Click on the method you wish to use for instructions on how to do this. Please email the link to scholarships@placedesarts.ca and ensure that the privacy settings on the video allows Place des Arts to access the provided link. Place des Arts will confirm that your video link has been received. If you do not receive a confirmation from us please check again. Please see our Filming Manual for helpful tips on filming a new performance. Please note that video submissions will not be judged on production value.
  • Visual Arts Students: Please email digital photographs (.jpg format) of up to three (3) your works created within the past 12 months directly to scholarships@placedesarts.ca or upload your images to Dropbox, Google Drive or another file sharing service and share the link(s). Work submitted may demonstrate a range of mediums explored, but should be in the medium(s) of the class(es) you are taking at Place des Arts. If you are unsure what to submit, please speak with your teacher(s) for advice. Place des Arts will confirm that your files have been received. If you do not receive a confirmation from us please check again.**Please note: a portfolio of up to 6 digital images is required for students who are applying for the Don Portelance Scholarship for Advanced Visual Arts Studies. Helpful tips for digital images:
    • Lighting: Please be aware of the lighting when taking your photographs to ensure the work is captured in the best possible way.
    • Labeling: Please label each file as 01 First Name Last Name Title, 02 First Name Last Name Title, 03 First Name Last Name Title (if your work does not have a title , please list it as Untitled).
    • File Size and Image Quality: Photos should be high-resolution (ideally, 300 dpi) and the size of each file should be no more than 3MB.
