In modern times, self-expression is at liberty. Unafraid to hide, I display my Vietnamese background through my artworks; specifically showcasing the highly renowned áo dài dress in one of them. The symbolic image of Vietnam depicts women wearing áo dài along with the Vietnamese conical hat. I opted to integrate this representative image into one of my artworks – embracing the distinct cultural aspects of it. Contrary to the superficial image, I am most proud of the messages within. Such as the replication artwork of the Seven of Pentcales tarot card, suggesting that with effort and patience for planting hard work, one would be rewarded with blooms of success. In relation, Perfectly Unperfect holds a similar message. Resembling glass and metal at the same time. One which breaks easily and the other is durable; in hopes of inspiring those viewing the artwork to choose the best version of themselves – whether to be fragile or withstanding to external pressure. In general, all of my artworks hold a significant value to both myself and the viewer, whether it be culture appreciation or personal uplifting.
I am confident to say that my work is experimentative and not limited to any art style. Although this might be due to my sufficient art skills, I learned that “perfect” is unachievable. Therefore, I seek to enjoy the process instead of being concerned with the negligible details. We learned to draw before writing, hence I attempt to reconnect with my childhood self through such artworks.
