Current teacher at Place des Arts (2024/2025 season)

Biography

I began my painting journey when I moved to Vancouver over twenty-five years ago. The softness and transparency of the watercolour medium drew me in.  I began taking classes in watercolour, drawing, and Chinese watercolour painting at local community centres and art studios in Vancouver. Soon I was hooked! As a performing musician and teacher of piano, I soon discovered in an in-depth way, how all the arts are interconnected and how one art form informs and enlightens another.

I have been fortunate to find inspirational teachers on my painting journey, especially Homa Eftekhar, Susan Pearson, and most recently, Hazel Graveness (former teacher at Place des Arts).

Artist Statement

When I began taking classes in painting and the teacher asked us all what we would like to paint, I said, “I would love to paint flowers”.  And I have been attempting to capture the beauty of flowers ever since:  their vibrancy, subtlety and ephemeral qualities.  I also enjoy painting landscapes and still life scenes.

It is such a joy to be a part of the Place des Arts community, where I can teach music and also be inspired by so many other art forms week by week.
