Artist Statement
Retracing my steps to my early childhood years, I remember always holding a pencil and sketching away at trivial objects. I often sat for hours beside my art teacher, sketching away at each captivating moment that had caught our eye. He took me to parks and lakes to practice life drawings, telling me about fantastical concepts that he was fascinated with. At the mere age of five I could never understand them, but through his words, I found a sense of wild curiosity and passion for art.
Art is exploration by nature. It will never be the concrete subjects that we could observe where boundaries are set the moment people set foot on Earth. Art is endless. It is a vast field of everlasting green hills that roll out eternally into the horizon. Dirt roads and unmarked paths alike, begging for exploration.
My ideas often come to me at odd times, during a meal, a class or when I am half asleep. When these thoughts appear in my mind, I grasp and note them down before they slip away from me. Then, I work towards materializing the idea, it begins with a sketch then the preparation of tools. When I begin, I not only follow my design, but I also let my thoughts and emotions guide me. This often leads me to places I hadn’t thought of before.
Art is a methodology, it is a tool, it is the paint brush and pencil I hold. It is also the belief; the belief that once I place my pencil on the paper, I will be able to create something greater and more significant. I strive to use art to connect with the society around me, it gives me a voice that is unlike all others, I am able to communicate my emotions and opinions directly to those who view my art.
I will be attending Ontario College of Arts and Design.
