પટઠુ (Pathhu) – My Joyful Companion

“પટઠુ (Pathhu) – My Joyful Companion” is inspired by the memorable summer I spent at my grandmother’s house, where my cousin and I rescued this dog and raised it together. I

chose to do this in black and white as it feels like a snapshot in my mind, something sweet and nostalgic. After that day, he is no longer just a stray dog, but our cherished member of

the family. Every time I water the plants in the front yard, he playfully comes along, insisting on drinking from the tap before the plants do. In his mind, he always gets the first share,

and this moment becomes a game we share. As I watched him enjoy the flowing water, I felt a deep desire to preserve this memory forever. This artwork is a way I was able to capture a sweet act, filled with innocence, joy and companionship, which is unforgettable and reflects the bond we have built.

The Sweet Pause

In this piece, “The Sweet Pause”, I tried to capture the lives and meaning of these objects on the canvas. Each item shown carries a personal meaning with it: the pitcher and martini glass represent my strong ancestors, lasting figures I look up to, who continue to guide me in life. The cherries and pear, sweet yet perishable, symbolize the present and the

importance of cherishing time with family while we’re together. The wooden table, made from wood sourced in my parents’ hometown, roots the piece in memory and heritage that acts as a foundation in our lives, while the tablecloth draped over it reflects the cultural

traditions that keep us connected. Through this classic dining scene, I hoped to show how objects can hold deep memories, and how taking a moment to notice them takes me back to my roots and people who make me the person I am today.

The Timeless Charm

This artwork, “The Timeless Charm,” was inspired by my great-grandmother, with whom I could not spend much time, as she passed away in my early childhood, but hearing about her and her tales, I can imagine her to be someone full of grace, strength and elegance. I

made this portrait to show how I look at her in my mind, in traditional jewellery and a warm knitted scarf. I focused on capturing the texture of her skin and the simplicity of her beauty, because those details speak to the life she has lived and the strength she carried. She was the backbone of the household, a bold and fearless woman who stood firm on her ground, even in times when male dominance was the norm. She did not let those limitations define her and instead became someone I deeply admire. This drawing is my way of honouring her legacy and imagining the powerful, dignified figure she was, and who I hope to become in my own way
