An “Organized chaos.” My art, I found reflects my perception of life, and my belief of how beauty can be found everywhere even in the most unconventional places. The inspiration to my pieces comes from the world around me, from the dust covered decaying plant by the window, to the rare colour range the Sun leaves on the buildings and mountains that catches my attention on my walks back from school. This collage-like method I use to bring detail into my works, grabbing the essence of everyday life through seconds or hours of observation, to then select the pieces that best represent a certain feeling I have in mind. Some topics I’ve been exploring lately are freedom, curiosity and excitement for the unknown, and transformation. This visual research helps me build a new image, and create a new world one of which I share with others in hope they feel what I feel when I do art. One of the main concepts I frequent is the representation of my culture. Coxolxauhqui, the Aztec goddess of the Milky Way, isn’t recognized or well known in comparison to other male gods in the Aztec culture even thought she’s the creator of everything humans know. Through this piece, I wanted to bring justice to her, and women in symbolism. I chose to use pencil crayons as my medium as they are precise and vibrant, qualities which I found clearly represented the rewriting of the wrongs of the past, and the intensity and power found in women.
