Biography

Michelle is a Hong Kong-born, aspiring Canadian artist with a lifelong passion for creativity. Her love for art began in childhood, but it was during the quiet moments of the pandemic that she reconnected with visual arts—through the delicate craft of soap making and the intricate beauty of silversmithing.

While she primarily works with soap, silver, and pastels, Michelle believes that anything can be transformed into art. Her practice is rooted in a deep curiosity and a desire to uncover beauty in the ordinary.

When she’s not creating, Michelle dedicates her time to working with and volunteering for local nonprofits, staying connected to her community and caring for others.

Artist Statement

When I first arrived in Canada, I was bewildered by the sheer presence of milk—so ordinary, yet so revered. Back home in Asia, milk was rarely consumed. Here, it was routine, expected. Even though my body resisted it—lactose intolerant and reluctant—my teachers still placed that carton beside my lunch, a daily ritual I never understood.

This piece is a meditation on that tension: my love-hate relationship with milk. It unravels the quiet power of milk propaganda and the many shapes milk takes—both physically and culturally. Tucked within are hidden symbols and personal relics—Easter eggs for the curious to find.

Created from reclaimed milk bottles, discarded plastic lids, paper, tape, water, preservatives, and clay, this work is built from remnants—just like memory.
