Omanie Elias
Artist
Omanie Elias has a lifelong passion for creating fine arts and crafts in all kinds of media. Originally focusing on pencil, pen, watercolour and oils, recently, she’s been experimenting with acrylics and pastels. Omanie also designs, creates and occasionally restores leaded glass, sews historic costumes, sculpts, makes leather masks, marionettes and needle felted 3D animals, all subject to the time allowed by her career as a scenic artist and set designer in professional theatre. She’s won scholarships, worked on commissions, participated in exhibits (both group and solo) and been a proud member of 100 Braid St Studios since it opened.
Generally pleasing myself in following the winding path that inspiration and opportunity take, whichever medium I use, I’m always drawn back to animals and the natural world. Detail, accuracy and texture give me great satisfaction, and I love the challenge of achieving this in miniature on unconventional surfaces such as found feathers and rocks.
