Nick Stacey
Visual Arts
Nick is a graduate of UBC’s Creative Writing Program and an artist at heart. He works in various media, creating comics, illustrations, music, audio drama, fiction and more. He has taught and tutored writing in one form or another for over fifteen years, holding a TESL certificate from Douglas College.
As an educator, Nick does not believe in prescribing a single path to success, but rather in providing students with the tools to succeed while maintaining ownership and a unique signature in their creations. That often means cultivating a supply of tricks and techniques that students will be able to draw from while creating. Channelling creativity means balancing exploration with technique; it is generally wise to ‘know the rules’ before breaking them.
Nick’s web comic strip, Shadow Lair, has been going since January 2018, posting on Tumblr and Patreon. His work has come a long way in that time, and as a primarily self-taught artist, he is in a good position to aid those starting out in the medium, offering advice learned from personal experience.
He is very glad for the opportunity to share his love of art at PdA.
