Krystal Morrison holds the position as second clarinet with the Vancouver Island Symphony, and enjoys an active freelance and teaching career in her native Vancouver. A graduate of McGill’s Schulich School of Music and the University of Ottawa, she possesses Master’s degrees in both Performance and Musicology. Krystal began her musical career with the Canadian military, making her debut on Ottawa’s Parliament Hill as a musician in the daily changing of the guard ceremony. Since then she has continued to perform across North America and Europe, and can be heard outside the orchestra playing Argentine Tango, or alongside viola in Duetto di Nuovo.
An enthusiastic pedagogue, Krystal has taught at music schools throughout Canada, from conservatories to Cadet Camps. Her teaching style matches her diverse interests and blends practice and theory, both in the studio and the classroom.
Krystal is also a certified Alexander Technique teacher and member of CANSTAT, the Canadian Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique. She has worked with musicians, actors and dancers to help them find ease in movement and bring new energy to their craft. Whether in masterclasses or one-on-one, she aims to give students a chance to pause, notice their habits, and ask, “is there a different way to approach this?”
