Music for Children
Born and raised in the vibrant heart of Hong Kong, my journey took a transformative turn at 18 when I ventured to Los Angeles, California, to immerse myself in the world of music. There, at the Los Angeles College of Music, I was awarded a scholarship to pursue my passion for electric bass with Jerry Watts and later graduated as the valedictorian, a testament to my dedication and love for the craft.
As my fascination with music philosophy and education deepened, I pursued a Master of Music degree in Music Education at San Jose State University under the guidance of Dr. Diana Hollinger. Alongside my studies, I remain actively engaged in the musical landscape, participating in performances, jazz ensembles, and recording sessions that enrich my experience and artistry.
One of my cherished scholars, David J. Elliot, eloquently stated, “Music making is a unique and major way of gaining self-growth, self-knowledge, and optimal experience, both now and in the future.” Living and learning in a mosaic of cultures has illuminated the profound connection between culture and music. This awareness has instilled in me the virtues of inclusion, empathy, and vicariousness, which I strive to embody in my daily interactions. I encourage my students to weave together multiple disciplines, using music as a powerful vehicle for expression and connection.
From nurturing musicianship to strengthening self-identity, music offers a unique and holistic experience for students of all ages—one that transcends boundaries and fosters growth in every aspect of life.
