Artist Statement
I have continued working in oils for this exhibition. I started three paintings with a traditional brunaille underpainting technique (burnt umber oil), and the monochromatic tonal paintings were so beautiful that I did not want to add any colour! The first layer of the other paintings was blocked in with acrylic underpaintings (finishing off with oils or acrylic). Deep recesses of shadow box frames help to create the illusions of 3D landscapes. I hope that visitors will enjoy the atmosphere and scope of these encapsulated miniature landscapes.
