My name is Lauren Gunning, and I am a grade 12 student at Terry Fox Secondary. I have always loved art and getting to play around in different mediums like painting, drawing, and ceramics. Up until this year, I was teaching myself different techniques and styles of art that interested me. This year, I was able to further my learning in a ceramics class that opened opportunities and taught me new things.
In my art, I love to play with different textures, colours, and shapes. I mainly explore inputting scenes or objects from nature or the sky into functional items like plates, vases, bowls, etc. A lot of my artwork is inspired by things I see outside that I find beautiful and inspiring. For example, one of my pieces was based on a leaf that I picked up from the ground while walking to school. I’ve done pieces that include stars, the moon, and other fixtures of the night sky as well as leaves, grass, flowers, and plants. I’ve always loved art that enhances the beauty of things we see every day and getting to make it myself and now getting to showcase it to others is a special feeling.
