Artist Statement

A few years ago, I discovered my passion for creating art, and since then, I’ve embarked on a creative journey that led me to launch my Etsy shop, Joma Studio. Along the way, I’ve continued to refine my skills and explore new techniques. My inspiration first came from an artist known as Misako Flodin, which encouraged me to experiment with various mediums like oil pastels, oils, and acrylics, in addition to my trusty pencil and Apple Pen.

A transformative trip to Europe, where I visited several art museums, further fueled my desire to improve. I was deeply inspired by the works of the old masters, and I knew I wanted to continue learning and developing my craft. With this in mind, I decided to enroll in classes at Place des Arts, where I could expand my skills and connect with peers who share the same passion for art.

Taking the acrylic class has been a rewarding experience; it has helped me learn new techniques, build my confidence (a little), and feel more empowered to incorporate them into my work. My art is inspired by my cat, nature, and the simple moments of everyday life. Two pieces that reflect this are “Early Sunday Mornings,” which features a bucket of tomatoes—one of my favorite things—and captures the stillness and peacefulness of the early hours. The second, “Happiness,” depicts my cat surrounded by playful little ducklings, illustrating how focusing on the small, simple joys in life can bring pure happiness. Thank you!
