Growing up and skiing in the Rocky mountains was an amazing experience. I learned at an early age that being outside and physical activity balances and enriches my life. At the time I didn’t realize how fortunate I was to ski and race every weekend at Lake Louise and stand on top of Mount Whitehorn on a cold clear day and look at Mount Temple, Mount Victoria, and Mount Assiniboine in the distance. It was only when I moved away to attend university and returned home for visits that I started to truly appreciate being raised in the Bow Valley. Each of the seasons in Western Canada has its own unique light, colours, and beauty.

My undergraduate degrees include a Bachelor of Human Kinetics degree and a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of British Columbia. Recently, I completed a Master of Education degree in Educational Practice at Simon Fraser University, which to date is my magnum opus.

My goal is to create fine art photographs. A fine art photograph is an image that is both artistically inspired and technically excellent. Just one on its own is not enough. Technique without art is cold and uninviting, while art without good technique prevents the viewer from enjoying the work.

When I’m outside taking photos I sometimes use neutral density filters or a polarizer in order to get as much right in-camera as possible. They help to control contrast and reduce glare which allows me to spend less time working on my computer. I’m happiest and in my element when shooting landscapes, nature, and wildlife early in the morning or late in the evening.
