Artist Statement

Octopuses are amazing! They are highly intelligent and curious, even playful. They change colour in response to stimuli. They can reshape their bodies to fit in the most unexpected places. Each of their 8 arms is controlled by its own mini-brain and their suckers can taste and smell as well as latch onto things. In polymer clay, I imagine these wonderful creatures exploring intricate objects, and they seem to develop a mind of their own. I find an arm snaking out of an eye socket or an eye peeping out between jaws.

Biography

Jade Martin Seedhouse is an emerging multi-media artist, working in digital, 2D (watercolour, egg tempera, copperplate engraving, pencil crayon, photography) and 3D (polymer clay, silversmithing). A true West Coast woman, she finds her inspiration in nature, especially the ocean. She has sailed tall ships to Haida Gwaii and around Vancouver Island and she is happiest when she is exploring the rainforest. Her work is in private collections around North America. When she isn’t camping, video gaming or creating, she works as a landscaper some days and a pipe organ technician on others.
