Place des Arts alumni (former student)

Biography

Heike Kuzminski is a watercolour artist and illustrator living in Coquitlam with her husband and two sons. With a Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Design, Heike began her career with a decade of experience in Interior Design. After leaving the design industry for several years to stay home with her children, she developed a passion for watercolour and illustration. She now spends her days painting in her home studio overlooking the forest. Her surroundings and daily walks in nature provide inspiration for her art. She enjoys isolating elements and details to create simple and striking compositions. Her favorite subjects to paint are birds and animals in their natural habitat. Heike has licensed her work, exhibited in local galleries, and has recently started teaching in person demonstrations and workshops. Visit her website or follow along on Instagram to view her most recent paintings and updates.

Artist Statement

I am a watercolour artist and illustrator and have had a long artistic journey with Place des Arts. It began as a high school student at Centennial Secondary, creating and framing my first painting for an exhibition at Place des Arts. Then while in design school, I worked on a research project involving the renovation of the Place des Arts building, where I learned more about its history and design. Years later, with a developing interest in watercolour, I took my first watercolour painting classes at Place des Arts. I began my painting journey here and have never stopped. I am happy to say that both of my children also participated in a variety of classes in drawing, painting and cartooning. In recent years, I have been involved in several exhibitions at Place des Arts, my favourite being the Positively Petite Annual Miniature Exhibition. It has been such a pleasure being part of this welcoming community.
