Artist Statement

My artistic journey at Place des Arts began as a high school student at Centennial Senior Secondary in Coquitlam. Our art class produced paintings, learned how to frame them, and saw them proudly displayed in an exhibition at Place des Arts. A few years later, while attending design school at Kwantlen Polytechnic University, I worked on a project relating to the renovation of Place des Arts. Interviewing staff and contractors working on the renovation, I learned more about the building’s history and design.

After years of working as an interior designer, the journey continued, when I enrolled in an evening class at Place des Arts and explored watercolour painting. I enjoyed it so much, I have been painting almost daily ever since. I am now a watercolour artist and illustrator.  I have a deep love of exploring nature and being outside. This series of paintings was inspired by my fleeting interactions with tiny birds native to BC. I express the joy these birds bring me by exaggerating and accentuating their various features.
