In my piece, “In the Headlights” I try my best to capture the choice of whether hope and innocence is something the viewer can have without taking. Deer, in many cultures, are symbols of innocence, peace, and prosperity. I chose to use sunflowers as symbols of hope to also help further capture this. I made the choice of trying to represent this decision by having a deer staring wide eyed through the paper, frozen in fear and agitation of the viewer staring at them, in the end, it is the viewers decision if taking an innocent creature’s hope to help your own is morally right.  I used a scratchboard to capture the detail and dark decision the viewer is facing.
