Utopia invites an audience to a whimsical tea party that confuses imagination and reality. My main objective in the process of elaborating on this work was to make the audience feel as if they were present in the scene. To achieve this, I focused on detailed depictions using colored pencils for a realistic effect. At the same time, I frequently used dreamlike colours such as pink and purple to capture a surreal atmosphere, giving the audience a sense of both reality and dream, creating a duality of feelings.

This piece includes a famous painting, The Swing, by Jean-Honoré Fragonard. The Swing expresses the tension between a husband and a lover, symbolizing the conflict between idealism and reality. Besides, Utopia is also an expression of the conflict and tension between idealism and reality. Within the tea party’s fantastical atmosphere, viewers will experience a sense of awakening through the black-and-white reflection of the city in the teacup, feeling the internal conflict between wanting to remain in an ideal world and facing the reality they must confront. The reference to The Swing serves as a device to help viewers understand and feel the tension between these two worlds.

Lost in Memory is mainly about memory, which shows an era of the past in which every single thing was so common that they have turned into old-fashioned things in the modern world. Lost in Memory is a collage work of things such as a home telephone, a public phone booth, a box television, a fan, an LP record, a post box, and a game machine.

To show the sense of depth more clearly and to create a more dreamlike, surreal atmosphere, I have split the composition into foreground, midground, and background. This splitting makes the visual experience better but at the same time reflects the way memories are often like a series of layers where not everything is clear. The work is made on the yellowish-toned paper, which contributes to the vintage texture and gives an impression of the fading that resulted from time as well as it encourages viewers to think how different perceptions of old objects can be formed by the time.

Thirst
This painting captured the moment that can often be found in our life. I paint a moment of my friend taking a drink from the refrigerator. In the world of today where social media reigns, people frequently overthink their online identity to impress others and only convey their most perfect version of themselves. Nevertheless, this painting, I decided to bring out an aspect of authenticity by showing life as it is, even in minute details.

Even though the piece is just a straightforward, everyday event, the main idea of it is to touch the stillness and genuine emotions that are hidden there. Conversely, being simple without ornate display and theatricality, the main subject is graceful togetherness in daily life. My point was to help audience see that such precious moments and beauty can be found even in the smallest and the most ordinary events.
