“i love you,” is meant to show the suffocating depression that I faced over the summer.
The piece is mostly grey, blue, and black. At first glance, the piece is simple and empty. There’s a lot of negative space. But once you look a little closer, you realize that there are a lot of these detailed sketchy lines. This is reflective of my art at the time. I was trying so hard to do something that I found joy in, but I didn’t have the energy to have inspiration. I was stuck in an art block. I ended the summer with one piece that I liked and a bunch of barely finished sketches. There was nothing, but the nothing was overwhelming.
That’s also how the piece plays when it comes to emotional symbolism. After my anger phase had ended, I was left profoundly empty. I felt alone, purposeless, and empty. But that feeling of emptiness weighed on me. I was empty, but that feeling of emptiness was overwhelming.
The words “I LOVE YOU. YOU’RE BEAUTIFUL” are written on all the paper.
