Biography

Emily has worked within arts administration in the Lower Mainland for many years and in her spare time practices print and textile art making. She is often interested in using art to explore physical space and the relationship we have with the places to occupy.

Artist Statement

Threshold explores the diverse relationships often inherent in the Chinese-Canadian diaspora by presenting organic forms emerging from a more traditional and geometric space. Varied foliage is interspersed through the piece as it grows as a new addition to the space alongside the tigers, all of which are emerging outward from the traditional architectural motif of the Chinese fencing. The bio-diversity mirrors the slow exploration of identity and the different ways a community grows, diversifies and branches out from its place of origin.
