Biography

Emily Sheppard is a ceramic artist born in London, ON and currently residing in Vancouver, BC. She has trained in fine arts since high school receiving a BFA from ECUAD and a Diploma in Visual Arts from NIC. Emily is a painter and sculptor as well as a pottery instructor. Her work is very playful and varies from colourful oxidation wares to quasi-sculptural wares and vessels for ceremonial use often fired through various atmospheres. Her inspirations are from themes drawn from life, poetry and dreams.

Artist Statement

The dragon teapot was created in honour of the year of the dragon and reflects various cultural representations of the dragon through time and art. Many different cultures have folklore featuring dragons and this altered vessel and ceremonial tea bowls are prototypes for a larger series to be finished later this year.
