In this piece I wanted to capture the beauty of Van goghs Cafe Terrace at night through a collage.
The process was tedious, picking out the perfect colours from pictures out of magazines, being unable to find the perfect shade or textures, the paper ripping in weird ways. But I think something in that tediousness is beautiful, taking time and care to create small paper puzzles. This project wouldn’t have been interesting if I had everything without trying and wondering if this piece of paper would work in this area.
I really loved working on this, sitting with magazines around me, looking for colours and in the process finding a bunch of silly pictures and cool art. Gluing the tiny pieces of paper was such a joy, with every tiny snippet the blank white page slowly goes covered teasing how the final will look.
