This light painting is a composite photo of seven individual images taken in Mundy Park, Coquitlam, during the time of my PDP teacher training. Each image had an exposure time of approximately 10-20 seconds using a flashlight as a paintbrush.

In this piece, I brought together the disciplines of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics together). Time had been a reoccurring theme to me. The different color lights represent different parts of time: the past in red, the present in white, and the future in blue. I purposefully chose these colors as reference to the Doppler Effect. Light moving, relative to an observer, will shift red if moving away and blue if moving towards. This method is used to map the movement of our universe by tracking the relative movement of stars and galaxies. The wavy path of white light leading to my figure also refers to the movement of light in waves. After all, red and blue light are just different wavelengths of energy.

To me, Mundy Park is a place where past, present, and future intersect. This place is my backyard, where I’ve grown up. I have so many memories, milestones, and routines here. It has, remains, and will continue to be my place of self-care and fresh air, grounding and rebounding, yearning and learning.
