Artist Statement
I paint the birds I see in my backyard. I’ve stylized their environment in different ways to suit the small format. Although I have an academic background in ecology, I often find I am most acutely observing an environment when I am painting, and birds are a perfect expression of this environment. Through art, I work to capture the essence of birds.
Biography
Over the years, I’ve taken many courses at Emily Carr University, Langara College, the Vancouver Academy of Art, the Dene Croft Studio and the Federation of Canadian Artists. I have also been fortunate to study at Hollyhock with Robert Bateman and David McEown. I am an active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists and the Port Moody Art Association. I work primarily in watercolours, acrylic and pen and ink.
