Artist Statement

Peri-Laine works in a variety of mediums. Working initially from plein air sketches in ink and watercolour or oil pastel, she often uses these sketches as references along with photos to complete final paintings in the studio. Her focus for these paintings is to capture the colour, light and mood that originally attracted her to each scene.

Peri-Laine began formal art study in Mexico, then completed her BA as an art major at the University of Berkeley, California. She went on to complete her Art Education training at the University of British Columbia and a Post Baccalaureate Diploma in Arts Education from Simon Fraser University. Peri-Laine taught in the public school system for 35 years. Now retired, she continues to work in her home studio and teach classes and workshops in the community and privately. Peri-Laine is an active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, the BC Art Teachers Association and the Burnaby Artists Guild.
