Megan Alandi

Children and Teens Hip Hop

Megan fell in love with funk and hip hop at an early age. Dancing since she could walk, Megan taught herself to move the way many did before the YouTube era: with freestyle and music videos.

With this passion for music and innate talent in dance, Megan started training intensively with the SOULdiers Dance Company where she learned the fundamentals of Urban Dance styles such as Locking, Popping, Hip Hop, House, Breakin’ and Waacking. Here she explored the history and learned directly from creators of these genres including Jimmy “Scoo B Doo” Foster and Boogaloo Sam.

Through her journey in dance, Megan discovered her love for teaching. Since 2004, she has taught at recreation centers, Douglas College and coached her former high school’s competitive dance team. With a Bachelor’s in Education from Simon Fraser University, she is now a BC certified Dance, PE and Science teacher at New Westminster Secondary. Megan takes pride in watching her students grow into talented and knowledgeable dancers by encouraging them to see their full potential.
