Artist Statement

“Safe as houses” is a Victoria-era saying used to communicate an excellent, safe and stable investment. Safe As Houses is my latest series that combines the iconic child-like house shape with an original abstract landscape. I want to bring together the ideas of inner peace and the warm comforts of home.

My paintings feature subtle textures and calm colours of semi-realistic landscapes or abstracts to give the viewer a place to pause and reflect away from the chaos around them. I believe inner peace is essential to well-being and the peace that I have is as safe as houses.

Biography

Katina Giesbrecht is a visual artist, graphic designer and art instructor from Surrey who specializes in monotype printmaking.

She has a Bachelors’ degree in Applied Design (KPU) and an Associates’ Certificate in Graphic Design (BCIT).
