Artist Statement

Receptacles is a body of work that stems from my obsession with collecting containers; something I have done most of my life. Sometimes the containers are serviceable and used, but the ones I create often sit empty as they are non-functional and sculptural in form, which is evident from the suspended adornment inside each container. The hand stitching design on the surface gives prominence to my love of embellishment. Containers figure prominently in my work as they represent the confinement and restrictions placed upon all of us by society, something I feel pressure to conform to.
