Place des Arts invites anyone interested in learning more about our Dance for PD® (Parkinson’s disease) class to attend a free open house. People are welcome to join in the class or watch from the sidelines.

After the class open house, all are invited to stay for tea, coffee and cookies. Teacher Megan Walker-Straight and Place des Arts Programmer Jessie Au will be available to answer questions at this time.

These classes engage the imagination and inspire the body to move. We aim to provide a creative and artistic experience where participants practice movement skills, connection and hope in a welcoming environment.

Dance for PD® is an internationally acclaimed program launched by the non-profit Brooklyn Parkinson Group in New York with classes offered in more than 120 communities in 20 countries. Its focus is to foster confidence and grace in movement for those suffering from Parkinson’s disease. Evidence from 35 peer-reviewed scientific studies serves to underpin the effectiveness of the Dance for PD® teaching practice.

Place des Arts offers Dance for PD® classes in our fall, winter and spring sessions. In the 2019/2020 season, Dance for PD® classes will take place on Tuesdays from 10:00 am – 11:00 am. Each class is followed by a social gathering featuring coffee, tea and snacks, helping to foster a sense of community amongst the participants. Registration for next season’s classes opens on June 16, 2019.
