Artist Statement

I believe that there is beauty in everything, and that each of us have our own unique experience and interpretation of beauty. The expression of feelings is not always accurately represented with words. Therefore, I choose to express my feelings and observations through art for a more integrated, precise and truthful conveyance of emotion.

Conventional, typical tropes of beauty and their related themes aren’t what I want to explore in my art. Rather, it is my quest to represent what is truly beautiful with my artwork. One thread that runs through my artwork is an exploration of the grotesque and the magnificence beneath it. Visually, it is a clear deviation from ‘the norm’ of beauty in art and calls superficial prettiness into question.

I try my best to represent strong feelings in my art through varied and mixed mediums. I am focused on invoking a certain feeling for my viewers. I feel the most surefire way to do this is by adding the shock of grotesque and violence to my art pieces, most commonly in the form of blood. I find including representation of blood to a piece adds both humanity and animalism and calls the viewer’s attention the rich world of beauty that functions through the grotesque.
