Artist Statement
My work celebrates the simplicity of the ordinary world viewed through the lens of my inner child. I am fascinated with upcycling and I love collecting old, unwanted objects from life and travel to use in my art. This series was made from a block-printing technique using old styrofoam take-out containers. I hope to give discarded items a second chance and the purpose of my art is to evoke delight and many smiles!
Biography
Carolyn is an illustrator and flight attendant living in Port Moody. Having studied art history, she travelled all over the world visiting famous museums and galleries. One day, she noticed that she spent more time in the giftshops admiring the children’s section than in the exhibits themselves! She decided to pursue a certification in Picture Book Illustration at Emily Carr and continues to study through self-experimentation and attending workshops with other illustrators. Carolyn can be found in her home studio under two cats and piles of picture books!
