Sophie Turner – Children and Teens Jazz & Lyrical Dance

Hailing from the United Kingdom, Sophie began dancing from the age of two, and started training in gymnastics at the age of five. She trained with renowned teachers such as Brenda Last and Yoko Ichino at the Northern Ballet School and at Yorkshire Ballet Scholars until the age of 16, at which time she received a full scholarship to Laine Theatre Arts, a performing arts college in England, where she obtained a National Diploma in Musical Theatre.

Over the years, Sophie won The English National Ballet Championship, was crowned Miss Dance of Great Britain and also represented the South Yorkshire gymnastics team and competed throughout England.

Professionally, she performed at The London Palladium in the West End and in shows throughout England including Jack and the Beanstalk, Cinderella and Robinson Crusoe. Sophie then moved to Japan and performed for Tokyo Disney Sea as a lead in a show created by Cirque Du Soleil.

As a dancer and aerialist, Sophie trained with Sonoko Yoshihara and Chinatsu Hirasawa alongside other great aerialists from Japan to prepare for and perform in Disney’s The Little Mermaid as Ariel, where she flew 30 meters high on a 2-point harness.

Since then, Sophie has traveled the world performing with Holland America Line as a featured dancer in all styles of dance; she performed in 10 shows and taught ballroom dance to guests on board. Sophie is excited to be teaching in Vancouver next season and sharing her love of performing arts with the students at Place des Arts.
